Congratulations Haruki “Rocky” Seto for winning Super Bowl 48!
Coach Seto is the Defensive Passing Game Coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks, which had the top rated defense in the NFL. Coach Seto has been on the coaching staff with the Seattle Seahawks for the last four seasons.
Prior to being in the NFL, he attended Arcadia High School and Mt. San Antonio College. Later on, he was able to fulfill his life long dream to play at the University of Southern California. He was a walk-on player that later received a full athletic scholarship. After his playing days at USC were completed, he started coaching as a volunteer assistant. He went on coaching at USC for the next 11 years, winning 7 Pac-10 championships and 2 National Championships. Coach Seto ended the 2009 season as the Defensive Coordinator and the following season moved on to the Seattle Seahawks with Head Coach Pete Carroll.
Coach Seto gives credit to his career to the coaches that influenced him during his youth and with his faith as a Christian. “Being a part of San Gabriel Dojo has helped me to develop into a football player and later to becoming a football coach. The care and the love of the senses, like Sensei Mike Noriega, have helped me develop a love for working with young athletes. The encouragement of the people of San Gabriel Dojo has helped fuel me to achieve my greatest childhood dream of playing football for the University of Southern California. Football gave me meaning and a purpose. But when I was a football player at the University of Southern California, I realized that I needed more than football. Jesus Christ became the Lord of my life and everything was changed forever. I realized that I am a sinner and I needed the forgiveness that only comes through Jesus’ death and resurrection. This is the greatest decision of my life. Instead of putting my home in football, I put hope and trust into Jesus. He is the greatest treasure of my life!” Coach Seto’s brothers (Ichiro and Makato) were also members of San Gabriel Judo. Coach Seto has been married to his wife Sharla for 10 years. They have 4 children (Kaylani, Mia, Troy, and Timothy). A special thank you to coach Seto’s parents, Akira & Emiko, who have been supporting San Gabriel Judo Dojo for over 23 years, since 1990.
